The project involved extensive structural work, including reconfiguring the layout across all floors. A key move was lowering the rear half of the ground floor to better connect the house to the garden, paving the way for a ground-floor extension where we created a large kitchen-dining-living space.
To enhance the sense of openness in this new addition, we built a ceiling with exposed joists to add depth and animate the space. The floor at the rear was also lowered, further enhancing the already generous floor-to-ceiling height.
Full-width, full-height sliding doors seamlessly connect the space to the garden, with minimal framing for an uninterrupted view. We detailed the bronze-toned frame to match internal elements, harmonising with the interior design and garden tones. The space is flexible, serving as both a family and entertaining area.
A mix of new and vintage pieces were used to create a lived-in and comfortable design that balanced practicality with aesthetic.
The brief for the outdoor space was to create a natural, organic flow from the house to the garden and beyond, avoiding hard landscaping elements like planter walls or balustrades.
Landscape designer Ula Maria zoned the garden into informal areas, using a mix of materials like different pavers and brick to add texture and character. Ula took our basic layout for the terrace and garden and adapted it to enhance the natural feel, ensuring the garden felt established and seamless without harsh architectural interruptions.
