Architectural Assistants position filled

Following our earlier posting in July, de Rosee & Sa has now filled our part 2 architectural assistant vacancy.
Cameron Burt joined our practice on the 1 August and we look forward to working with him.





Retail Week Awards shortlists Lutyens & Rubinstein Bookshop

Retail Week has shortlisted the Lutyens & Rubinstein Bookshop for two categories as part of its RetailWeek Interior Awards 2010. The categories are the Shopfitting Excellence Award category and the Best Small Shop.  The bookshop which is located on Kensington Park Road, was designed by de Rosee & Sa and opened in October 2010. This year`s awards have attraacted the largest ever number of entries. The winners are announced at a ceremony on Tuesday 28 September.

MONOCLE magazine features the bookshop

MONOCLE magazine, which describes itself as "a briefing on global affairs, business, culture & design" features the Lutyens & Rubinstein Bookshop, designed by de Rosee & Sa, in its July/August 2010 issue on page 103 (issue 35, volume 04). The bookshop is 1 of 5 businesses listed in a report of "cultural players". The article says: "Nestled just off London`s Portobello Road, Lutyens & Rubinstein packs in about 3,500 titles and a smattering of exclusive merchandise into its 65 sq m, two-floor space. It`s also the home of their agency, hidden behind a sliding bookcase."

Elle Decoration features Lutyens & Rubinstein Bookshop

The Lutyens & Rubinstein Bookshop, designed by de Rosee & Sa and opened in October 2009, is featured on page 70 of the July 2010 edition of Elle Decoration. The article is about how being a bibliophile has never been cooler.
Leading the pack is Notting Hill store Lutyens & Rubinstein, which has chic monochrome decor, cool origami-esque lighting and book sculptures by London firm ContainerPlus.



Successful planning process for W14 project
10 June 2010
Our proposals to modify the rear of a property in W6 gained planning permission from the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. The proposals, for modifying a single family home, consisted of a garden extension and new openings to the garden. de Rosee & Sa were appointed as architects on the full refurbishment of the property; the works on site are expected to start in July.


Planning granted for listed Holland Park refurbishment project

The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea have approved de Rosee & Sa`s proposals for a listed residential property in Holland Park & granted planning permission. The proposals, to modify one of the listed residential villas on Holland Park for a private client, were discussed on site with the planning officers before consent was given.


Chiswick High Road project granted planning consent at committee
21 April 2010
DRS` Chiswick High Road project was granted planning consent at the London Borough of Hounslow`s committee meeting. DRS applied to convert the existing residential building into a B1 office on the ground floor and basement, with two flats on the upper floors. Despite local objections, the proposals were recommended for approval by the Planning Department and the Councillors voted unanimously in favour of them.


RBK&C architecture appraisal panel for 2010-2011

Max de Rosee will continue to serve on the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea`s Architecture Appraisal Panel for 2010-2011. This is the third year that MdR has served on this panel, which considers and advises on major planning developments in the area.

New Holland Park refurbishment project

DRS have been appointed on a new refurbishment project for a grade 2 listed property on Holland Park. A planning application is being prepared and is scheduled to be submitted in April of this year.

Lutyens & Rubinstein bookshop shortlisted for AJ award
22 January 2010
Our bookshop project for Lutyens & Rubinstein has been shortlisted for The Architects` Journal Small Projects 2010 award. The shortlist of 24 represents "the best architecture built for a contract value of less than £250,000". The winners will be announced on the 25th February 2010.

New refurbishment project in Westminster
04 December 2009
DRS have been appointed to provide architectural services for the refurbishment of an apartment in W2. The four bedroom flat is in a mansion block and is scheduled to go on site in 2010.

December`s issue of local magazine The Hill features an article on the new DRS-designed bookshop for literary agency Lutyens & Rubinstein. Planning application for new Chiswick mixed use project
02 November 2009
DRS have been appointed as architects for the refurbishment of a mixed use building on Chiswick High Road. The client, a development company, will occupy the ground floor office space; residential accommodation will be provided on the upper storeys. DRS  have submitted a planning application for alterations to the street facade, extending the building at the rear, and also for creating a mansard roof with additional residential accommodation.





Lutyens & Rubinstein bookshop opens
14 October 2009
The new bookshop for literary agency Lutyens & Rubinstein opened to the public on Saturday 10 October. The bookshop is located at 21 Kensington Park Road.  DRS were appointed in May 2009 to design a new bookshop in an existing commercial unit. The new shop occupies the whole of the ground level, and shares the basement level with the offices of the literary agency, which are discretely concealed from the public behind a set of sliding bookcases. DRS was commissioned to design the layout, the bookcases and the light fittings for the new shop.


Bookshop works start on site

The refurbishment works to the new Lutyens & Rubinstein bookshop started on site yesterday. The bookshop is located in the former Coco Ribbon shop on Kensington Park Road, and is due to open in October 2009. DRS appointed on W2 office conversion project
06 July 2009
DRS have been appointed as design architects on the refurbishment of a 5,700 sq ft building on Bathurst Street in London, W2. This Grade 2 listed building is currently used as offices and will be converted into a 6-storey house.


Spire House planning appeal granted
20 May 2009
The Planning Inspectorate has granted planning permission for DRS` proposals to Spire House following an appeal. Having had two planning permissions refused by Westminster Council in 2008, DRS felt confident that a precedent had already been set elsewhere in the building. An appeal was submitted in conjunction with First Plan, the planning consultants, in February 2009. The proposals are for a large glazed and bronze clad extension to the North facing terrace.


DRS appointed on new W11 bookshop project
18 May 2009
DRS have been appointed by Lutyens & Rubinstein as the architect for a new independent bookshop in W11. The client, a literary agency, will also have new offices located in the lower floor of the shop. The bookshop and offices total 998 sq. ft and are due to open in October 2009.


DRS taking part in Architect in the House
13 May 2009
DRS are offering local homeowners the chance to get some architectural advice in return for a donation to Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity. DRS are taking part in Architect in the House (AITH), a partnership between the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Shelter. The scheme gives people across London the opportunity to book an hour-long consultation with an architect to discuss anything from a loft conversion to a major renovation project.


Max de Rosee continues on RBK&C Architect`s Appraisal Panel

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in consultation with RIBA London, have decided to continue the role of the Architecture Advisory Panel for 2009/10. The role of the panel is to advise the Planning Department on strategic or challenging planning applications. The panel meets monthly at the Town Hall to review proposals selected by the Planning Department and offer advice. Max de Rosee served on the initial panel and will continue to serve for 2009/10.


Caithness Road on site
15 April 2009
Construction has started on the refurbishment and extension of a semi-detached villa in W14. This is the second house in Caithness Road that DRS are working on. Construction is scheduled to be complete in January 2010.


Planning permission obtained for W14 project
26 February 2009
DRS were appointed in November 2008 on a new project in W14 for the extensive refurbishment of a semi-detached villa. A planning application was submitted in December for a new extension into the garden and an additional storey on the closet wing. The proposals have received planning approval from the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.


Planning permission obtained for Chelsea project
27 November 2008
DRS proposals for a house in Elystan Place have been approved by Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea. These include a new mansard level, a new basement level, and new rear facade. Construction is due for 2009.


New residential project in W14
20 October 2008
DRS have been appointed as architects for the refurbishment and extension of an existing townhouse in West London, W14. A planning application is due to be submitted in December 2008, with construction  scheduled for 2009.





DRS appointed to design cabin
25 August 2008
DRS have begun working on the design of a cabin for a client in Belgium. The brief is to use locally sourced or recycled materials, particularly timber from the wood the cabin is located in.





Caithness Road excavation completed
19 August 2008
The underpinning and excavation works have now been completed, and the concrete slab has been laid on the lower ground floor. A temporary structure has been installed and the steel superstructure is being installed.


Planning permission granted for Kensington Project
21 July 2008
DRS proposals for alterations to the Edge Street Townhouse project have been approved by Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea. A new application has been submitted for a basement excavation.


Urban Splash Infobox Competition
05 June 2008
DRS`s model is currently in the exhibition in Liverpool and also features in this week`s Architects` Journal.

Competition Entry Submitted
19 May 2008
DRS have submitted an entry for Urban Splash`s Infobox competition for the Tribeca site in Liverpool. An exhibition of entries will take place at the Novas Contemporary Urban Centre in Liverpool on the 5th-27th June 2008. Selected entries and winners will be announced at the beginning of June 2008.

DRS`s proposal for a semi-detached residential house in W14  has received planning consent by the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. The proposals, which include a 3-storey extension and complete refurbishment, are due to start on site in May and be completed in December 2008.


Max de Rosée appointed on RBK&C`s Architecture Advisory Panel

Max de Rosee has been appointed as one of the members of the 24 strong Architecture Advisory Panel for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The panel will assist the planning department on high profile planning permissions in the borough.
